File this under “News I Cannot Believe I Missed”:
On May 11th, famed writer Douglas Adams passed away from a heart attack.
A small handful of writers have had such an impact on not only my own style, but on my outlook on life. The most important thing I learned from Douglas Adams is that no situation is so dire and so dreadful that you cannot find a moment to step away from it, point at it, and just laugh until your belly hurt.
The world is likely overstuffed with campy tongue-in-cheek quotes-turned-epitaphs by now, but I just wanted a moment to say so long, and thanks for all the books.
Addendum: The official site bears the sad news of his departure as well as the end of the website itself. The discussion forum has been redeployed as a tribute thread, if you care to read it.
Addendum: I didn’t want to at first, but by request, I added a discussion thread to this update.
