Democratic Party SUPPORTS Terrorist Attacks On Theramore! Vote GOP!

but… orcs actually
*like* Mitt Romney…

This one definitely goes in the oh-god-I-could-SO-not-make-this-up-file. Let’s hear it from the Maine Republican Party on one candidate for the state legislature, shall we?

Colleen Lachowicz, AKA Santiaga, is a gamer in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft(WoW), which takes place in the make-believe land Azeroth. Today, Colleen/Santiaga is an orc assassination rogue playing at level 85–the highest level one can attain.  She and the members of her “Wreck List Guild”—Colleen/Santiaga’s WoW online alliance—post comments to each other on liberal online forums including the Daily Kos, where they discuss politics, military policies, and WoW battle tactics.

Studies have found the average WoW gamer is 28, and spends 22.7 hours a week playing in Azeroth.

Note that the Maine GOP feels it necessary to remind everyone that the world of Azeroth does not actually exist, yet then continues to attack Lachowicz for anti-social behavior in said fantasy world.

Other things the Maine GOP attack Colleen for include being a slacker, reading Daily Kos, using bad language, taking Eminem videos seriously, participating in Brewfest as an ogre, and having a uterus.

In case you were curious on if this was an official initiative or just some Tea Party crank yelling at clouds for being so gosh-darned high up in the sky? The Maine GOP site is having technical difficulties this morning, but I promise this was there last I checked:

Democratic Senate Candidate Colleen Lachowicz’s Disturbing Alter-Ego Revealed
…“These are some very bizarre and offensive comments, and they certainly raise questions about Lachowicz’s maturity and her ability to make serious decisions for the people of Senate District 25,” said Maine Republican Party spokesman David Sorensen.

The Maine Republican Party will make an effort to give voters all of the information about candidate Lachowicz.  To that end, the party has established a website,, where people can see Lachowicz’s online activity for themselves…

I think I can safely speak for everyone who reads this blog (which at this point consists mainly of other game developers and devoted inside baseball fans but STILL) that I firmly support a candidate for office like Colleen Lachowicz who actually is a connected and social member of society, whom, like millions of other happy and well-adjusted people, choose to be happy and well-adjusted by way of stabbing Internet Dragons in the face.

I’ve already contacted Ms. Lachowicz’s office asking for a link to really the only proper response: a link for donations to her campaign. Because, dammit, we NEED more mohawk Orc ladies representing us. Even if they’re not combat spec.

Edit: Her response to my request/this story:

Thanks for standing up to support me. While I cannot accept contributions personally (I am a publicly financed candidate), other organizations are raising money. For more information on how to donate, and learn about other ways to help the campaign, please head to my website here:

I have no comment on Theramore at this time.

  1. Well, to start with, she should point out that she is a level 85 orc rogue girl, so not only does she like stabbing things, she follows through on her stabbing. Her iLevel is a little low, at 343. So she would have been excluded from the recent Theramore event. But she has managed to get all the 10 person Uldaur achievements. So she is clearly an orc to be reckoned with. I’d vote for her, though if she is going to be drowning people in her bathtub, I have some people to add to the list beyond Grover Norquist.

Wait, wait, wait… no achievement for Gnomeregan. I might have to reconsider.

  2. That’s my guild and they’re all good people. Santiaga hasn’t played in a year or so, at least not regularly. She’s been busy running for office and stuff.

  3. David Carson says:

If I was contesting a tight political contest, I would definitely look for opportunities to make ridiculous outbursts that will alienate more than 1% of the electorate (roughly 3 million WoW subscribers in the USA).

  4. Stropp says:

Note too how ‘ColleensWorld’ has the comments section disabled.

They’re happy to throw s*** but not to be called on it. Cowards.

  5. Michelle says:

My female orc warlock fully supports Colleen “Santiaga” Lachowicz, and I would definitely vote for her. Unfortunately the Republican party frowns on cross-state voting, so I’ll just wait for a link to her donation page.

  6. JuJutsu says:

So Lum still distinguishes between official Republicans and Tea Party cranks. I thought RINOs were an endangered species.

  7. DC says:

In the next 20 years, we’ll have a generation of politicians who have spent a good part of their adult lives doing crazy stuff that is documented online, whether it’s reposting off-color cartoons, political rants, or even trash talking in a RPG. People talk about how the pre-Watergate politicians seemed so virtuous. It’s because there isn’t a permanent transcript of every transgression waiting to be clicked on.

To quote a famous Democrat, if you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. When you engage in social networks, post in public message boards, or blog, this is a permanent record that can be used against you, even without context or meaning.

  8. Sutro says:

You gotta admit though, a lot of her comments aren’t very circumspect for someone running for public office. Saying in any public forum even sarcastically that you want to drown Grover Norquist in your bathtub, though this may be a feeling I get on a daily basis, is not exactly a great way to win an election.

  9. Vetarnias says:

I think the point the Republicans are making, or trying to make, is valid, however petty it might be. They are suggesting that she is unfit to hold office not because she merely plays online games, but that she is wasting her life playing them. That’s why they point to studies about how the average WoW player spends 22 hours/week in the game. That’s why they detail everything about her character’s levels. That’s why they point to her alliance mixing the serious (politics) and the frivolous (WoW battle tactics) on online forums, especially forums that don’t especially involve gaming like Daily Kos.

If Ms. Lachowicz, or her staffers, is reading this (which they might well do, since Jennings contacted them), I wish to point out that I am not a Republican; I am not even American. But someone who aspires to public office ought to behave as such, restrain from posting juvenile-sounding posts on websites, and keep a low profile when engaging in hobbies that still carry stigmata in the eyes of many mainstream voters (otherwise the Republicans wouldn’t have bothered). Or is there such a dearth of statesmanship in the United States that it’s not even worth attempting anymore?

  10. Rises From the Grave says:

I’m pretty sure Grover Norquist already was drowned in a bathtub during the 1970s. Unfortunately, he has continued on to become an 88th-level lich, and frankly nobody has any idea of how to stop him.
Some have resolved their quandary by throwing in with him, and have become abject and loyal vassals in his undead empire.
They have to sign an oath written in the blood of their first-born child, then submit to arcane and disturbing rituals in the Bohemian Grove, or something. Once a year, they all gather at a secret location to read Shirley Jackson’s ‘The Lottery’ aloud, then randomly accuse someone of being a liberal and stone them to death. Followed by snacks and socializing with the entire undead heirarchy present.
    Ahh, good times, good times.
