Is this some subtle change in the purpose of this blog?

    “Don’t be Derek Smart”.

The longest version is that you are an adult that can’t go in a blazing trail with the energy of over nine-thousand suns against the kiddie who is using his mom’s computer, but it would be too patronizing.

The other dark side of showing off to the media is that is easier to insult a person than insult a company or a game. That’s why lefties attach an idea to a person and then destroy said person, but that’s neither here or there.

Is easy to forget that all the random words that we put on teh interwebs are a reflexion of ourselves. Philosophical, but true. Forgetting that is like not looking any mirror, eventually we forget who we are.

The overwhelming majority of my University education was being told I had to create a PowerPoint presentation that spans x amount of minutes with an understanding that it’s fairly probable something will go wrong that will prevent said presentation from displaying. Seeing this here, well, perhaps I didn’t give my education adequate credit for being an accurate portrayal of work conditions.
Thinking back to my own uncorked ivory-tower idealism, the stuff that tends to end up in various caches thoughtlessly dredged up by content preservation bots, my sentiments towards being ejected from F13 remain more or less the same, “you’re monkey people, all of you~!” And that either burnt some bridges or erected them depending on how you look at their aspirations towards 4Chan.
Seems I’m destined to be a Derek Smart without any of that redeeming brute force willpower towards creating games.

The dark side of blogging is that people make pointless, off-topic political comments to stir up shit.

    Just like those annoying socialists!

There is nothing wrong with off topic political comments, you capitalist pigs!

This was at an event organized by me for the Austin chapter of the IGDA. There were 10 speakers in all, and the hookup to the projector was VGA, without a wireless hookup. But Scott did well anyway. It was a fun night. We’ll get the rest of the videos up before long.

No faction has a monopoly on ad hominim attacks. It’s ALWAYS easier to attack a person than an idea. Ideas require thinking, and even intelligence; people just require pointing out some flaw in their personality.

  • http://geldonsgaming.blogspot.com/ geldonyetich

It should be noted, however, that ad hominim is not always a fallacy if it applies to the argument at hand.

Why wasn’t Prokofy Neva not at least not used as a bullet point?
“Do not say the name of ego maniacal fanbois EVER, unless you want to annoy the readers of your blog. (Derek Smart not included since he has persuaded himself that nobody on the Internet quotes him under threat of legal action)”
Someone will make that mistake now and it will be ALL YOUR FAULT.

    Good presentation tho.

Welcome to the future, where Apple still uses customized crap to connect to what is standard for the rest of us (note how it’s a new connector compared to, say, an iMac). Honestly, most devices for presentations still use VGA (projectors aren’t cheap and pretty far down the replacement list) but I don’t blame Scott for not owning one. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a modern one that uses DVI or HDMI. Streaming video wirelessly is still kinda in its infancy (and probably not available in iOS yet).

  • Scott Jennings

I actually do own one. The problem is the cable kept falling out because it was, to put it mildly, not fastened securely. Oh well.

Speaking of Americans, it would seem that next April will mark the sesquicentennial of a certain event in American history that involved a lot of spilled blood, patriotism, and stupidity.

Why don’t you Americans mark the occasion by tearing yourselves apart, plunging your country whole into a death spiral and self-destructing, while public opinion in the rest of the world oscillates between schadenfreude and embarrassment — embarrassment for you, that is, since you’re too busy sniping at one another to realize how silly this all is?…

Oh wait, you’ve been at it for ten years now. Keep up the good work.

Vetarnias: I’m not American. And really, right vs. left is not exactly an American-only phenomenon. But I do care what goes on in America. I certainly wouldn’t want one of the world’s largest economies, my country’s largest trading partner and only neighbour, to go down the wrong path, because whatever ills are visited upon America do eventually affect me, in some cases quite a lot. Wishing someone ill just to show how superior you are… well, let’s just say that doesn’t vibe with my political/ethical leanings.

As an American that’s worked and lived in Canada for more than a decade now I’ve learned to take Canadian opinions of both the US and Canada as interesting….but not much more than that. Pointing at the imperfections south of the border makes it easier to pretend that imperfections [sometimes the very same ones] don’t exist north of the border.

True, but the more troubling ones come as the result of being subjugated to the will of the juggernaut in every respect, be it political, economic or cultural.

The Conservative Party’s tactics themselves have been imported from the US; despite the name, it bears no resemblance to Brian Mulroney’s party anymore, much less Diefenbaker’s.
