Those are almost exactly the numbers I get on my site*.

    * – give or take seven thousand.

    That’s  a nice tractor!

  • Rodalpho

Pretty sure you have a lot more readers than that, Lum. I primarily read your site through the RSS feeds, and I’m confident most of the others do as well.

  • Scott Jennings

Yeah, the RSS feed about doubles the page hit total.

I just linked it because it was a very dramatic graph!

  • Aufero

Whitelisted you a while ago, but Google Ads has yet to get past the neural network based content filter in my brain.

  • Iconic

I am staggered by lucrative ad revenue you take in.

  • http://geldonsgaming.blogspot.com geldonyetich

Roughly ten times as much traffic as my blog gets.  Indeed, Ad Sense seems a bit too heavily biased towards clicks and not biased enough towards impressions for my liking.  Project Wonderful is a better way to go about it, but you never know who will end up advertising there.

Unfortunately if any site wants to stand a chance of making cash from ads they need to stick them right in your face and obstructe the content. Your ads are very minimal which partial explains the low CTR. Also I’ve found that most gamers will avoid clicking on ads like the plague :P

    Lum,
You keep offering to do more on tractors and I for one am glad to see these posts.
    Keep up the good work!

10,000 views… equals 1 dollar? Why does anyone even bother supporting that kind of “program”?

  • Sentack

Jump in number of page views when the RealID Forum news hit: Interesting
Number of ad sales and the clear evidence that everyone uses Ad-Blocker: Even more interesting

To be fair, you don’t have much advertising on the site, and what you do have is very low-viability.

  • Scott Jennings

I love it when SEO specialists stop by to tell me my site’s income could be increased from $1 to $4 a day if only I turned the entire blog into one massive ad banner.

  • Brask Mumei

Project Wonderful lets you only post approved ads, no?

I seem to recall it was used briefly here.

  • bonedead

bout time we had some more tractor up in this bitch!

  • http://stylishcorpse.wordpress.com Ysharros

Am suitably impressed by dramatic graph! Also, I can haz some of ur readers please? (I think I need to work on my LOLcats fluency.) On second thoughts keep the readers, it’s too much like hard work keeping us happy.
I might be one of those people with FF and AdBlock. I will no go be ashamed somewhere for depriving you of my $0.0001 in revenue.
Tractor is good, but I have a brand new combine harvester, so nyerh. (Link: YouTube, music, SFW depending on how they react to bad 1976 pastiches of other songs.)

By the way, I think displaying this data breaks Google’s ToS.
In any case, you definitely need to experiment with your Google Ads placement. I would get rid of the banner version and just display text ads. I would also move them to the top of the right sidebar and experiment with placing them within your content area — it’s not hard to do this without getting in the way of the content too much.
You should also try out other ad services – BuySellAds (www.buysellads.com) works very well with blogs and doesn’t rely on CTR. I highly recommend it.
    Good luck!

  • sinijs

About the only way you are going to make money is by selling your dignity. Accept and move on.

Given your current day job the last thing (I’m assuming) you want to into is foiling client-side adblocking, but I certainly wouldn’t cry if you “hid” come content if any of the popular blockers were detected.

For what it’s worth I accidentally clicked on an Evony ad last week. So you’re welcome for the fraction of a fraction of a cent.

What do you expect? You don’t have many ads (or very effective ads) and then say “Hey guys look, my ad revenue is low.”

No kidding? Next thing you know you’re going to try and tell me your blog isn’t an authority on real estate.

  • http://tagn.wordpress.com/ Wilhelm2451

I saw a peak in page views on the 7th with my own Real ID kvetch.  There was a slight decline on the 8th.
Then I mentioned that World Cup predicting octopus on the 9th and page views doubled from the 7th.

I think you’re barking up the wrong tree.

That real estate link turns up a 404 error.

From what I’ve read, sites that make money from ads are sites devoted to solutions. A site about male baldness probably does well with ad links for male baldness hair shit.

A site about MMO games isn’t really attracting a lot of visitors who will click on MMO ads because we’ve already played them and if we haven’t, we’re a cynical lot, and never want to play them.

You forgot the tractor crowd. Someone could come for the Massey-Ferguson archive and end up in Evony.

  • http://geldonsgaming.blogspot.com geldonyetich

    Dear John Deere,

Tractor-related websites are few and far between, therefore I would like to introduce you to a foremost authority on tractors on the Internet, and furthermore his availability of ad space…

P.S. Do you have a Russian model of tractor you are particularly proud of?

    Sorry =p

impressive.  Although for some reason I thought your site got more hits per day.

  • Iconic

pat: impressive.  Although for some reason I thought your site got more hits per day.

Not really. In fact, half of those hits are probably just Geldon hitting refresh.

  • http://geldonsgaming.blogspot.com geldonyetich

Iconic attempts Geldon troll. Geldon fails resistance roll.

Iconic:  Not really. In fact, half of those hits are probably just Geldon hitting refresh.

Nah. Maybe about fifty to a hundred a day, if I’m procrastinating extra hard that day. Basically, I hit up BYOND, anime, a forum (usually Escapist Magazine), and two gaming blogs (this and Rockpapershotgun) when my mind is idling without anything to do. Which, considering I’m an unemployed schmuck living in an area with very poor job pickings, is the majority of my day.

  • http://wtfismygearscore.com Dargonaut

Yeah, barring obnoxious or confusing placement, you have to churn a lot of visitors through a site to make anything off AdSense.

I get like 40-50k pageviews per day on my site and only make a buck or two per day.
