It’s so much fun, even the ground wants to do it!

  • Zuzax

Almost a coherent, well written piece except for the unfortunate OMGWUTTEHFUXXORZ INTERNETZ DR4G0NZ CAPSLOCK LOLCATZ F-bomb affectation that derailed the author’s logic train neatly in the middle.

  • Scott Jennings

Uh… yeah, that was kind of the point.

  • Caya

    Beautifully written.

  • Aufero

Damn, that was funny.  And right on the mark.

Ok, just to offer a counterpoint, there’s always a disconnect between the forums and the game for me. The forums are full of people posting about the game (if that, even) rather than playing the game. The fantasy world isn’t in the forums. The forums are full of flames about nerfs, about how weak a class is compared to others, about people rickrolling (or whatever current flavor of rickroll is out there). It’s about theorycrafting and saying that if you gem AP instead of crit you do .1789 more DPS because that’s what the spreadsheets from Elitist Jerks say.
In other words, once I log out of the game and browse the forums, the fantasy world has already been dispelled. When Legronth the Druid posts, he’s not describing the wonders of Azeroth and how the beatific sound of the morning birds renews his love of nature. No, he’s saying something like “Druids are NOT overpowered. Try playing one, noob, instead of crying because you got pwnd one time in a BG by a druid!!!”
The message boards never twinkled with the magic of illusion. They’ve always simply been gamers talking about the game they are playing in the way gamers talk on these or any other message boards.

Blizzard has come to their senses and will not be requiring real names on the forums.

  • dartwick

Wow – that was an awesome piece.

  • Zuzax

Scott Jennings: Uh… yeah, that was kind of the point.

Gotcha. It was “teh funnyz” or something. Wait, should that be in Caps Lock?

No you still didnt get it(and seriously it was obvious.)

He was pointing out that the game brings out fun and excitement an fantasy and we love that – and it we dont dont behave the same way we do other wise. Thats just the way it is(much like some of us acrt when we play trash talk and brag when playing casual sports.).

We want the game world to be fun and not a place where we have to act responsible because of real life reputations.
