Wow.. Just.. Wow.. Nice find.. Had no idea this was in the works….
Joe
This is going to be Return of the Jedi to MK Annihilation’s “Dark Knight”.
Joe
Err, was going to say:
This is going to be Return of the Jedi to MK Annihilation’s “Empire Strikes Back”.

If it turns out anywhere near as good as that trailer, I’ll be happy.

I’m … I …
What do you say after watching that? I’m completely dumbfounded. It has never occurred to me that they could make a movie out of Mortal Kombat that wasn’t effectively a live-action cartoon.
Plus, they killed Kage off in the trailer so doubleplus bonus points!
Iconic
How does a plastic surgeon get so good at martial arts? How do they know that Reptile takes human heads and stores them in his fridge, but don’t know where to find him?

I usually grouse about the “dark science-realism” take that every remake seems to take nowadays, as if the audience were incapable of entertaining a single non-mundane premise. But the sheer awesomeness of that has completely blown me away.
Freakazoid
Considering we already had our mostly lore-adhered mortal kombat, I guess I don’t mind hollywood rehashing it into one of those dark science realism films. All mortal kombat needs is good martial arts action and plenty of gore, and this trailer has them.
Still, hollywood should really cut out all this rehashing. I already dislike the a-team remake.

As someone who considers Mortal Kombat: Annihilation to be one of the worst movies I’ve ever paid to see, this trailer is pure win.
Thanks for sharing it, Scott!

Oh, Hollywood, it seems somebody forgot to yell “Finish Him!” at some point.
Brask Mumei
Woohoo! That looks epic!
I really should get a free ticket, however, since I also saw first Mortal Kombat movie.

That’s pretty impressive.

Visually, it seems to me more like The Watchmen than the Dark Knight.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Suni bubicaaaaa!
Looks great, but how are they going to explain Raiden?

geldonyetich: they came close. “Find Shang Tsung and finish him.”
A Man In Black
If you’re curious what this actually is, it was apparently made in order to shop a potential MK reboot to Warner, according to some site I’ve never heard of but people seem to think is credible. http://www.joblo.com/cool-videos-the-mortal-kombat-short-film-that-must-be-turned-into-a-movie

Now this looks like it could be a fun movie. Thanks for the heads up, had no idea it was in production.

Uh, practice? How does an actor playing a plastic surgeon get so good at martial arts? Or is Martial Arts not a skill available for training to the Plastic Surgeon class, and I just wasn’t told?

Right now? It isn’t.

Funny thing is Warner Bros hasn’t said this is a movie in the works, it’s just something that’s gonna be shown at E3, a video game convention. Could never make it to theaters, could just be something announcing a new game.
Either way, looks interesting, whoever worked on this little clip did a great job, but I hope someone takes out Sonja Blade.
It’s a fancy demo reel for the director to “sell WB” on his vision for a new film.

I figured as much, it sort of has a film-school-presentation feel about it.
It’s a tad pretentious to think a game originally put together by four guys playing with digitization should be a major motion picture… not that it hasn’t already been done… but stranger grasping of straws have come out of Hollywood.

Oh, we got trouble / Right here in Deacon City / With a capital ‘T’ and that rhymes with ‘P’ / And that stands for ‘Poo’!

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer Michael Jai White as Black Dynamite.
ToeJob
What? Noooooooo!
Igni
That was Jeri Ryan as Sonja Blade, right?

In less than 10 years there will be a movie that shows 90 minutes of a guy field dressing, cooking, and eating a bushel basket full of live babies.
It will be PG-13.
david
Well, I hope they go ahead and make it… A film based on a video game that I actually want to see!
