Updates You Pray I Never, Ever Post: #58 In A Series
Adrianne Curry, America’s Next Top Model winner: I’m going to spend my day ‘raiding commando’. Or, as she put it more eloquently, “playing World of Warcraft butt naked & stoned“. No, really!

Welcome to the mainstream.
Edit: Adrianne is shocked and appalled that you are shocked and appalled (and surprised that a reality TV star does things for publicity).
I have done playboy twice.I have done terribly naughty bad things, but people made a big deal about my PG rated nekkid WoW pic? huh.

Attention whore wants attention. Film at 11.

What bothers me is that they haven’t shut down the night elf mohawk ads and picked this up.
I can imagine what the grenades would do, but I don’t want to see what would happen to tauren chicks.
On the upside, at least now I can pretend all the people I run across while playing who appear to be stoned out of their minds are just hot naked women.

Peter Brady won the lottery: a hot wife who plays video games naked. It is as if the wet dreams of men living in their parent’s basements snapped into reality.
Hey, Walt, they are called models. Real mature how you call a woman a “whore” for advertising for her career.
I know you are probably a pissy little virgin, but try to keep the mysogyny to yourself. Hot women using your games in there photos shouldn’t threaten you.
Okay, she’s wearing hot-ass librarian glasses (a personal fetish of mine), and from that picture it looks like a legitimate nerd den. She’s definitely trying to titillate with the whole “naked” thing, and I’m okay with that. I think outside of intentional exhibitionism she probably is a dork.
Good.
I’d like to mention I play video games and have non-gamers not think it’s sad.
The more mainstream these games become the better.
As for industry people who are annoyed by this – jeez. You hate getting paid or something?

What’s her GS?

@Pat
Pretty sure this is the definition of attention whoring, honestly. Also, calling someone an ‘attention whore’ and a ‘whore’ carry completely different meanings.
That said, attention whoring is a completely legitimate part of main stream culture, apparently – that’s pretty much the definition of being a celebrity.
Personally, this kind of thing embarrasses me as a gamer because I know just how well it will work against it’s target audience – of which I am a part. Of course, I’m also pretty embarrassed by the reaction of a society as a whole to celebrities so it’s not really out of character.
Sheesh! So playing online games butt-nekkid is somehow unusual? It’s just like going from shower to jammies to computer, but it cuts out the middle step.
I’m not so sure about playing stoned though. Tough luck if your raid goes bad because you’re a bit out of it.
She needs to clean her fucking desk. Also, what is that? A 13″ CC tv?
Before I left Azeroth it was a safe bet to assume that half of my raid force (which bounced between 40 and 60% female) were “sans apparel”. I believe it’s referred to as “raid attired”.
I’m curious as to how being demonstrably attractive detracts rather than adds to the scenario.
@hellfire
Not sure what sort of community your coming from, but that seems a bit ridiculous. Not to say it isn’t true, but I would say it’s a unique occurrence rather than the norm.

Actually, Pat, my comment had nothing to do with ‘my games’ – and everything to do with Adrianne Curry.
I don’t even watch TV, and I’ve seen her dancing about craving attention dozens of times.
On the reality shows that she is on, with all of them fighting for the camera – she’s front and center doing even more outrageous things than the others.
I’d raid her dungeon any day.
I always wonder why attention whores stop just at the being naked part. It’s like seeing her naked breasts is just fine, but vigorously masturbating on live cam whenever the raid kills a boss? That’s just boorish!
That is just wrong. I am truly offended. Drugs, porn and online games… I’d rather not have online games tossed in the lot with those two, thanks.
Don’t go all cry baby when congress decides to limit, ban, tax, whatever, online games because they are morally corrupt.
I hate people.
I am offended that you’re lumping drugs and porn in with online games. I’ll have you know the first two are much more respectable!
.. I wish I was kidding.

@Raelyf My WoW guild was the successor to the successor to the successor to a launch-EQ guild. Older, family-style, etc, etc. The guild as a whole is 60% female. The core *raiders* skew around 75% male. The fluctuations just came in when wives/SOs filled in for no-show raid spots and whatnot.
The stigma traditionally associated with gamers is rapidly eroding – it’s naive to think there won’t be at least and AVERAGE number of intersections between the sets “gamer”, “woman” and “attractive”.
I don’t pine to see the gaming (sub?)culture become synonymous with attractive, naked women, but I don’t see the problem or care. Not only that, but I wouldn’t see a problem if it were man-whores either! Slow. News. Day.
With her latest tweet I AM somewhat intrigued by what “terrible” means in context, though. Oy.

Ok, so a woman goes onto a reality TV show (attention whoring) about modeling (attention whoring ^2), wins (AW^10), and then posts that she plays video games naked (1 x 10^300). The latter surprises people because…?
But she could teach Activizzard a thing or two about gamer marketing. They’re currently busy peddling WOW with the Mohawk Grenade.
Anyway, she’s not naked. She’s wearing a headset.
I love her, she always cracks me up. So she likes attention? VERY few people don’t. I do love the fact that her personality has remained the same in all of the work she’s done; she doesn’t take things too seriously and seems to have a lot of fun. Frankly, I’d rather raid with her and enjoy the time I spend in there than running with someone who gets *offended* at the mention of nudity and the sight of some leg from the knee down.
And don’t get pompus and rant about associating drugs and WoW. We both know that a large number of the people on most raid teams are stoned or drinking during the run.
“She doesn’t take things too seriously”
Dood, she confessed to illegal drug usage over twitter.
That means. She’s an idiot.
The image she’s getting rich on is a very bad one for young people to see become successful.
She’s a brain dead image model that makes young boys expect all the wrong things in a woman and she makes young women have eating disorders and behave in ways that are not in their best interest.
In short.
She’s stealing oxygen that could be put to better use by a dairy cow.
Slam her all you like. That she has to do so remarkably little to get attention has less to do with her being an attention whore and more to do with a fundamental flaw in humanity.
Geldon – not sure sure that the way male humans of breeding age automatically lock their attention on healthy-looking females of breeding afe is a “fundamental flaw”. I’d class it as a design feature – Working As Intended

As someone pointed out on another blog: the way you can tell this is Blizzard-sponsored viral marketing is that she typed out “World Of Warcraft” in full (capitalization and all), instead of WOW, in a twitter.

Oh my god, hot naked girl says she plays wow and does drugs. End of world! Rant! Rave. Flying monkeys!
Seriously… Who cares? It’s not that big a deal.
True, but this is a large part of the reason why attention whores garner contempt: they flaunt it. Yet, ’tis only a simple function of human intelligence to seek a path of least resistance.
Seems the solution would be to pay her less mind rather than more, but there again enters the insistence of the libido to the contrary.

Post something else, Lum – every time I check your blog at work I wonder whether it’s going to get me fired.
Stop checking your blog at work, you say? Use an RSS reader instead, you say? Pshaw.
mmm see the thing I don’t get is apart from her being semi-hot (hard to judge since this is the only pic I’ve seen of her, I don’t watch reality TV or read about “clebs”) we care why?
the way I see it is that this is designed to grab the attention of two very different types of people, those who will be titillated and those who will be offended (either for moralistic reasons or because it insults their hobby/industry).
I think it was rather silly to post the stoned bit, it is a crime (no matter where you stand on the issue) and could get her into real trouble.
Personally I don’t really care, she’s not hurting anyone with her actions, so as far as I’m concerned she should be allowed to do it, it’s no different then myself having a beer while playing my xbox, only I don’t twitter about it, because I know one gives a crap about it.
And I can’t see why anyone gives a crap about her, let her do what she wants, and just ignore it, like we do 90% of the crap we don’t like online.
P.S those glasses are freaking hot. Why do people in my generation find hot chicks in glasses so attractive? Is it all the cartoon women we saw growing up?
You can tell she’s not a serious MMO player – her tweet says she showers.

I wonder if she’s taking 900 calls while she plays.

I wonder if she wraps a largely male post-adolescent guild around her little finger so she can automatically win loot drops.

I wonder why people bother the fact that celebrities play an online game, as though that were abnormal (like they’re too busy being famous or something). It’s like they also never go to the bathroom.
By the way, Mr. Jennings, when is your next MMORPG.com column coming out?

Men who don’t have daughters see no big deal in woman being successful by acting like a druggie slut.
Men who have daughters want druggie sluts to be an example of failure.
Am I right?
@Chrome
I think they had a South Park episode about that.
@Chrome
Yes, god forbid your daughters have enjoyable sex lives and healthy sexual attitudes, or occasionally enjoy the least harmful drug around. Smoking weed sometimes makes you a druggie, and allowing yourself to be photographed in the nude makes you a slut. And girls should fear being called sluts, of course, because that’s bad bad bad. Girls should just shut the fuck up and quit pretending your body is for your own enjoyment and not a blank slate for society to project all its anxieties and neuroses onto. Because then men will look down on you! And of course those men constitute all men, because we said so. And so you might not get a man, and all of Cosmo’s tips on how to Please Your Man will be in vain! And really, that’s the measure of your value in the world, as the media is more than happy to make clear, so you might as well say ‘gg’ and start cutting if misogynistic douchebags aren’t interested in you.
Seriously, Chrome, WHAT THE FUCK?

“”I think it was rather silly to post the stoned bit, it is a crime (no matter where you stand on the issue) and could get her into real trouble.”"
You might want to call High Times magazine and relay the message, I don’t think they’ve heard about the ‘you can’t talk about smoking weed’ law yet.
Man, Cypress Hill is going to be fucked.
Joe,
I have 2 daughters close to her age and they both have healthy sexual and self images and no they dont go about acting like a slut because yes it is socially a bad image to portray about ones self. Its called self reespect.
Also yes openly talking about smoking weed , while not illegal, makes you a target for law enforcement because its still illegal. I have no issues with smoking weed in general and dont feel it should be illegal but while it is one shouldnt make ones self a target by broadcasting the fact that you smoke.
You really can’t be as ignorant as you just sounded right?
Ah – She’s Hot, she’s naked, she likes to play MMO’s. She tweets, She even gets on guild chat appearently. Am I missing something? I keep seeing people talk about a downside to this issue?

@Aufero
I do not, under any circumstances, in any imaginable scenario, want to see William Shatner naked, whether he’s playing WoW at the time or not.
Besides, can you imagine raiding with Shatner? The guy who counted lines to make sure he had more than Leonard Nimoy? Just imagine him whining about the “defective” damage meters, not to mention demanding all the good lewtz.
Oh, and Pat, “attention whore” has nothing to do with the gender of the subject. See Shatner, William.
“”Joe,
I have 2 daughters close to her age and they both have healthy sexual and self images and no they dont go about acting like a slut because yes it is socially a bad image to portray about ones self. Its called self reespect.”"
Note the complete absence of logic in this paragraph. It’s “socially a bad image to portray”, as in it’s against what strangers — in a culture dominated by misogynistic assholes — might expect from you. How on earth does that involve ‘self respect’? The very ESSENCE of self respect is being able to tell society’s self-proclaimed standard-bearers to go fuck themselves if and when they so choose. The message that a woman who enjoys sex and enjoys flaunting her body lacks self-respect is anti-feminist to the core.
Nothing says we all have to be the girl who posts naked pictures on twitter. But there’s something deeply, sickly wrong with you if you think that being comfortable enough with your body to post them is a sign of lacking ‘self-respect’.
I really don’t see a woman who “enjoys sex and enjoys flaunting her body.” I see a woman who is very busily involved in a series of calculated gambits to become a celebrity, at any cost.
Whether or not “lacking in self-respect” is the right term for that is debatable, but by and large morality flew south some time back. Granted, by and large, when you live in a culture largely sick with celebrity worship, a pebble in an already bubbling pool hardly makes a ripple.
Spending all her time naked must be awful for her heating bills.
Not to mention that it must be pretty uncomfortable sitting in a chair for hours on end for a raid. Raiding in your pyjamas I can understand, but I suspect naked raiding is rather more something you boast about, than something you would actually want to do.
The increase in winter heating costs are offset by the decrease in summer cooling costs.
Self-respect, yeah. Is high but really fragile, just as expected of a narcissistic whore who does anything for becoming a celebrity. Mind you, my dick is really happy about it, but it can’t use a keyboard.
Also mind you, my dick would be really unhappy if that was William Shatner. Not a pretty image.

I never would have guessed that combining World of Warcraft with naked women would create drama. Still… there’s something familiar about this.
