• JuJutsu

I tried to watch that. Honest.

  • Big Gulp

I dunno. Token black guy sold it for me!

  • Raad

    What is this treachery?!

  • Galt

I’m at 48 seconds and I’m ready to claw my eyes out. Update soon if I can see….

  • http://www.thebrasse.com Brasse

This is jawdropping in all the wrong ways.
Like these four people would ever, EVER get together on purpose… aside from filming this unbelievably lame promotion.
“Ohhhh, you went straight to the activities!”
    “Uh, I did THREE activities!”

I hate you for this, Lum.
    No really.
You owe me now. ;-) #

  • http://carbinestudios.com Troy H

This is criminal, and you are a bad person for sharing.

  • Freakazoid

Did they really have to make this?

I feel more stupid for watching 30 seconds of it.

  • Hally

“Of course the first thing you want to do is install…uh, a couple of days in advance of the party.”

Yeah. That way you can use the party to focus on errors and crippling incompatibilities rather than the hours of prompts and loading leading up to the errors and crippling incompatibilities.

  • Recursion

    Flo the party bro!

  • Grumm

Would have been amusing if after they finished with the incredibly fake enthusiasm….
    the swingers showed up.

    What a terrible image.

Your cruelty and sadism knows no bounds lum

  • Demetra

I managed to watch about a minute of it and now I have a eye twitch and circle to the left like a three legged beetle. Sweet jebus, who the hell at microsoft thought that was a good idea?

  • Horse

Definitely wins an award for most appallingly gratuitous use of shaky-cam.

  • John Arras

I prefer your Darkfall anime videos. When will we be seeing more of those?

  • http://killtenrats.com Ravious

I mostly watched the oven clock for the lolz.

  • dorath

I made it as far as 2:20. Do I win a prize? :-\

  • http://none Todd

I just wanted to thank Ravious for making that video entertaining.

  • dartwick

50 seconds. How can something so funny be so painful.

  • Senhokyoho

Is installing Linux a valid activity? Or should I hold off on that until we just leave the computer running for anyone to mess with?

  • http://hudshideout.com/blog Hudson

    WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS????!!!!

  • Brad

The sound on my laptop is flaky, so I’m watching this muted while the radio’s on.
So, muted, my guess is that the people are ‘the son’, ‘the grandmother’, ‘the mother’ and ‘the father’, and the reason for all of the difficulties is that the grandmother doesn’t really approve of mixed marriages but she’s trying to be supportive of her misguided daughter. Is reality somehow worse?

  • http://www.brokentoys.org/ Scott Jennings

    Much, much worse.

When Ironic Nerd Guy threw the horns at the end I knew this had to be some sublime sort of self-parody.

I updated with a new version!

  • Matt Mihaly

The entire thing is code for setting up orgies.

  • Guy

Watched the whole damn thing while reading the comments here. wth is this? How is this a good marketing idea?? Will this be one of the great marketing gaffes of all time? My jaw dropped.

Thanks for the second version, it cleansed the palate.

  • Tremayne

This is what happens when corporate marketing drones say “Let’s do something viral.”

The only viral those guys need is Ebola.

  • Einherjer

    I really don’t understand…
Is Microsoft trying to get people to host parties to promote windows 7?

  • Vetarnias

“Sweet jebus, who the hell at microsoft thought that was a good idea?”

Probably the same shrewd people in the marketing department who gave us the Project Natal video.

Perhaps the only reason why Microsoft is being let off the hook for this is because Google has really been working really hard to replace it as Sinister Mastermind Bent On World Domination.

  • Njal

    Aaaaaaaagh

  • Flimgoblin

I hope that the only reason for that Microsoft video to exist was to power the remix.

  • Zuzax

They failed the diversity check, as there was no Asian represented at the party.

  • http://tprjones.com TPRJones

It occurs to me that one way to get a video to go viral is to make it so bad that everyone has to talk about how bad it is. And even if everyone is making fun of how bad it is, they’re still talking about it.

In a way, this is brilliant.

  • http://www.thisisnotacommunity.org D-0ne

Just think every six months you can have new videos of the “Service Pack” parties! Windows 7 service pack 3 party! Rock on Micro$oft! Rock on!

  • http://dsob.wordpress.com geldonyetich

    I really don’t understand…
Is Microsoft trying to get people to host parties to promote windows 7?

I think the idea is that they’re scared people will be alienated by Windows 7, so it’s like:

“Wouldn’t it be great if people hosted Windows 7 parties to orient themselves with our product?”
“No, Steve, that’s a stupid idea.”
“Do you have any better idea?”
“… Alright, fine, we’ll roll with it.”

  • http://dsob.wordpress.com geldonyetich

I’m not sure what it has to do with a Windows 7 launch video, but this related video was awesome.

  • Andy O.

Haha, I got approved for this, I was sorta looking forward to it. Maybe our first activity will be to *beep* and then *beeeeeppp*

can’t argue with 9 free copies of Win7 Ultimate for your friends though. Who said Windows was expensive, fuck Apple. Oh wait, *beep* Apple.

  • Jerid

    Suggestion:
    Switch the Videos around.

Make the remix first, then the full length.

    (Or maybe I’m just backwards)

  • Goodgimp

@Zuzax: Maybe they just assumed that those dirty Chinese weren’t going to buy it anyway.

  • Dan

Either I’m being played somehow by a master, or that’s just cringeworthy.

  • http://goamsy.blogspot.com Ritchian

    That… What…?

i will never understand what goes through the minds of a marketing department.

  • Mercury

I couldn’t finish the first minute. The incredible awkwardness (what was it like scripting that? re-taking sections?) grew to a painful level that I did not know existed.

    Egads.

  • Gx1080

Damn, I never have seen so many plastic food in one place. Well, it can be argued that even Proyect Natal was less plastic than this.

Also, that commercial isn’t cringe worthy if you take in account that is oriented to people that do suburban orgies. Why Microsoft wanted to take them as a market, I have no idea.

And my idea is that, from right to left:

*The shy nerd with a crush to a middle age woman.
*The alcoholic grandma abandoned in an asylum.
*The daughter, that is bored of a suburban existence.
*The black guy that is having an affair with the daughter (giving the daughter her daily supply of big, black cock).

  • Alex

The “Win7 Burn Party Music” video from the same user appears to advocate copyright violations.

  • Alex

I also kept expecting someone to look at the camera and say “Look guys, these parties are mandatory, so just follow our example and get through it as easily as possible.”

  • Nerd Rage

Yep, this is agitating my rage alright. Not a problem though, it looks like an early fall this year, and the hate keeps me warm. So in a way, Microsoft is doing me a favor by helping me save on my gas bill. And by helping me save whatever a Win7 upgrade costs.

  • Oz

Thanks to Ravious, it’s much more fun to watch. That 6.5 minute video apparently didn’t go as smooth as they thought.

  • Cop Mustache

    Hell, I’m sold.

    I’m getting a Mac.
