I Feel Unclean

  1. #1 by LabRat001 on August 17th, 2009

Be afraid . . . be very, VERY, afraid!

  2. #2 by Brask Mumei on August 17th, 2009

The pleasant rewards of no longer being niche!

  3. #3 by geldonyetich on August 17th, 2009

Could have used a RL transition gender swap as the punchline. Aside from that, fairly awesome work.

  4. #4 by isildur on August 17th, 2009

Mmm, Auto-Tune. Where would people who cannot actually sing be without you?

  5. #5 by Matt on August 17th, 2009

    We’re mainstream! Woo!

  6. #6 by Andy O. on August 17th, 2009

How can you feel unclean, I can’t get enough of these guys, they just crack me up. Not since Weird Al of old have I been more into a song that makes my nerd’ish heart beat with excitement.

  7. #7 by Klepsacovic on August 17th, 2009

    That was hilarious.

  8. #8 by Noel Walling on August 17th, 2009

I’m not entirely sure ‘The Guild’ qualifies as “mainstream”. Also, Felicia Day can hold her own without autotune.

  9. #9 by wowpanda on August 17th, 2009

This is pretty good, is it their own work or they re-wrote some existing song?

  10. #10 by D-0ne on August 17th, 2009

    Why?

  11. #11 by Jeremy Preacher on August 17th, 2009

Jed Whedon, one of the songwriters from Dr. Horrible, is credited with the tune.

  12. #12 by Scott Jennings on August 17th, 2009

Given all the WoW-specific in-jokes I think it’s safe to say it’s their own work.

  13. #13 by Matthew on August 17th, 2009

    That’s effing great.

  14. #14 by Vetarnias on August 17th, 2009

What’s the name of the band, City of Zeroes?

But I can easily imagine so many cultural studies professors at overfunded universities pondering the subtext of this work.

  15. #15 by TPRJones on August 17th, 2009

    O.O

  16. #16 by Michael C. Neel on August 17th, 2009

If you’re not watching The Guild, you should be – it’s hilarious. Felicia Day writes and produces the show, basically did it on her own getting help where she could and now it’s taking off. Sandeep Parikh (Legend of Neil) is also involved and excellent on the show as well.

  17. #17 by Michael on August 17th, 2009

Unclean but in a good way, I think. :) Love the success they are having, hope we get to see more wacky awesomeness like this down the line.

  18. #18 by D-0ne on August 17th, 2009

I’m trying to be open minded and to have a sense of humor, but I find that video disturbing. It’s not funny to me at all. I obviously don’t get it.

  19. #19 by Mandella on August 17th, 2009

    D-One doesn’t get it.
    Film at eleven!

    :)

  20. #20 by Julie Whitefeather on August 17th, 2009

Now THATS funny – it reminds me of a “gnome” that once made a pass at my “nightelf” in WoW: I told the gnome “Young man I am a nun in real life and old enought to be your mother.” The response?

    Stone cold silence.

    Julie

  21. #21 by Montague on August 17th, 2009

The wife and I saw this at The Guild’s panel at Comicon. Well done, and funny to boot. Also got to meet Felicia and Zaboo afterwards on the Exhibit floor – awesomely nice people as well.

  22. #22 by Freakazoid on August 17th, 2009

This is the kind of terrible video that cater to the fans of a niche subject who are the equivalent of people who still find singing animal videos very entertaining.

  23. #23 by GTB on August 17th, 2009

    …Pass.

  24. #24 by Aufero on August 17th, 2009

It’s terrible, hilarious, and I feel unclean for having enjoyed it. I’ve been avoiding The Guild, but if this is a sample of the humor involved, I may have to watch.

    Thanks?

  25. #25 by Zubon on August 17th, 2009

The rogue is priceless (sorry, I’ll learn names once I start watching it), but I enjoyed the moments when Felicia dropped character, during the rain and in the last few frames.

  26. #26 by Calelari on August 17th, 2009

Aaaand, it became the #1 download on iTunes, knocking Taylor swift down a notch.

  27. #27 by squirrel on August 17th, 2009

Honestly, I think the Guild is hit or miss on a per episode basis, but overall I hope it continues to succeed bigtime. From what I know, Felicia Day and the rest kind of decided to make their own market when they were struggling with getting work and overall they’ve done a great job. There’s lots of talk about the internet being an equalizer for creatives but there’s fewer examples of people succeeding (beyond youtube cat videos or perez hilton). Gratz!

  28. #28 by squirrel on August 17th, 2009

Oh and like Tycho – I just want to groom her.

  29. #29 by Hoss on August 17th, 2009

I want my 13 seconds back!

  30. #30 by squirrel on August 17th, 2009

    Bill me. Payable in 2032.

  31. #31 by Walt Y on August 17th, 2009

How about a little Tank and Spank.

  32. #32 by Dblade on August 17th, 2009

    Great, it’s this generation’s Pac-man fever.

  33. #33 by schild on August 17th, 2009

9 Times out of 10, nerd humor is not funny. This is not that one time out of 10. Felicia Day never is, ever.

  34. #34 by schild on August 17th, 2009

    Posting again, for great justice.

But, she’s an attractive chick that plays games and is mildly connected to Whedon culture. I can’t imagine how that would ever help her get where she has gotten.

  35. #35 by TPRJones on August 17th, 2009

I can’t stop watching it over and over.

The number of subtle little jokes crammed into this thing is amazing. Of course it helps to know both the characters and actors well to appreciate many of those infinitesimal but brilliant moments.

  36. #36 by pharniel on August 18th, 2009

this r not funneh. wow iz srs buisness!

truth be told this was at least as entertaining as a tamake whateverhernameis video, so, hey, nifty.

  37. #37 by Jeff on August 18th, 2009

I thought it was pretty funny. The rogue is hilarious.

  38. #38 by Jeff on August 18th, 2009

I would add though that the guild uses the type of humor that either you get or you don’t. It’s either pretty damn funny or pretty damn terrible. Kinda like Wayne’s World. I personally think they are pretty funny.

  39. #39 by Female Gamer on August 18th, 2009

For the iTunesless, Amazon sells the mp3. Yeah, I’m not just a she-nerd, I’m a she-nerd who just shelled out 99 cents to put that on my Sansa. And a she-nerd who can never think about the brand name of her mp3 player without thinking of cockroaches, which has to make me some kind of super-uber-nerd with a major in obscurity.

I think what it comes down to is that, in a world where people outside our subculture treat us with suspicion or disdain, and their humor is laughing at us, it’s something done by someone who knows, someone who’s been here — and someone who, as a result, is laughing with us. Yeah, we all know those people, in some form or other. We are those people; we can see our own traits reflected in them, not all of them, nor all in the same character, but like a fragmented mirror, they show us ourselves.

Besides, Felicia Day has an amazing voice (reminds me of a young Annie Haslam) and I’ll cheerfully pay to listen to it.

  40. #40 by geldonyetich on August 18th, 2009

    You had us at “she-nerd.”

    But I kid…

  41. #41 by Scott Jennings on August 18th, 2009

    +1 DKP for Renaissance reference!

  42. #42 by Drey on August 18th, 2009

OK, the only obscure cockroach reference I’m coming up with is Archy and Mehitabel so, Female Gamer, please clue the clueless. :-)

  43. #43 by Scott Jennings on August 18th, 2009

(hint for those googling, it’s actually Gregor SaMsa)

  44. #44 by Drey on August 18th, 2009

Ah, so still a literary reference

  45. #45 by Wendelius on August 19th, 2009

Female Gamer, if you enjoy gamers laughing with us, have a Google for “Electric Fun Stuff” and “Has anybody seen my corpse”. This was in the Everquest days (where choosing which 3D MMO to play was a bit simpler than in these days of abundance :) ).

It’s a funny slice of sung MMO history. They have other songs on Civilisation, Starcraft, …

  46. #46 by gyrus on August 19th, 2009

    Okay… okay… .em gyrus

  47. #47 by Oz on August 19th, 2009

There were more songs than just the legendary Corpse one too. EFS made a bunch of them, and when they were in their heyday, there was tons of people mimicing them. I have a whole CDR somewhere with EQ-inspired/related songs. Some are good, some are bad, and some are horribly horribly bad.

I found the video ok, once I got that they were mocking the genre more than trying to have virtual whoopie with me. Felicia seems like, at least from the interviews, someone who gets that the majority of gaming folks are perfectly normal people who find the fringe people hilariously interesting in an odd way we cannot explain. Thus you Zabu who takes an emoticon as a come-on. iTunes will get another 99 cents out of me tonight, as I have to make sure I get this before it’s gone…

  48. #48 by The Claw on August 19th, 2009

I too have been avoiding The Guild, and if this is a sample of the humor involved, I will continue to do so.

  49. #49 by Toastrider on August 23rd, 2009

I wonder if Felicia Day has ever seen ‘The Gamers’ (not to be confused with ‘Gamer’ which is something else entirely)?

*chuckles*It’s parody, right down to the semi-dance with wind blowing hair bit in the video. I am amused. :)

  50. #50 by Vajarra on August 24th, 2009

This must be a guy thing.
