Jeff Attwood had a pretty good write up about Civony and their new adds entitled “How Not to Advertise on the Internet” http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/001286.html

I think they’ve set the new low bar all around.

I take it tha’s a screenshot of your “Spam Filter”.
The one below the Envoy link made me wonder what kind of sites you were going to till I recognized the Avatar Icons were from this site.

  • Trevel

I’m actually more concerned over the guildwars/sex animal tube/Mac connection.

Sure enough, the very first message in my WordPress spam filter was from evony.

The very second message said that there’s very recent information available about Paris Hilton’s boobs. What, do they have their own news correspondents now? They could split them into left and right leaning.

  • Gx1080

Trust me, you DO NOT want do investigate in that subject…I still have nightmares about that.

About Civ..Evony, “look at me, im the result of an orgy of gold sellers and spammers”. Besides a disgusting representation of one of the most hated enemies of this industry and the Internet itself, it just isnt fun playing a half-assed copy of Age of Empires.

Wow. That’s a totally disgusting tactic. One of my writers wrote a review for them last month- I almost want to take it down now. :(

SEX ANIMAL TUBE? Count me in!

  • http://www.arksark.org/blog/ Arkenor

I posted about it too: http://www.arksark.org/blog/2009/07/05/evony-a-patchwork-of-stolen-parts/

I actually played it for a little while, in the name of research. Mostly what annoyed me is that the tech descriptions in Evony are ripped right out of Cilization 4.

Anyone who gives them their credit card details, or installs the iEvony client that accesses your email and instant messenger software, is INSANE!

  • http://www.arksark.org/blog/ Arkenor

The reason spam has picked up, is that they have outsourced their spamming to the players.

The chap in your picture there has a special URL, and if anyone joins through it, he gets in-game currency. So you now have hundreds of thousands of idiots all running around cluttering up the internet.

The irony is, if they just had some advertising in the game, they’ed probably make decent money.

  • EpicSquirt

Arkenor, thanks for letting us know :-) . It’s damn amusing.

Hey, have you guys played goatse yet? [URL redacted]

Word is that you can report the accounts that spam you and they will ban them. Up to you if its worth the effort to report them. Details on in the Evony patch message for yesterday.

  • Stormwaltz

I love Evony. It’s much better than “Cats.” I’m going to see it again and again.

  • Ninetytwo

Perhaps it will become a sign that you’ve made it, like a Weird Al song.

“I knew my blog was really popular when every post I had got Evony spam all over it.”

  • S.

Evony is developed and owned by RMT-seller http://www.wowmine.com (this is not an advertisement, it’s the truth). This company earns between $300.000 to $500.000 PER DAY from selling WoW Gold, which enabled them to single-handedly develop their own mmorpg with a CHINESE team.

The CEO of “UGME” (non-existent company!) is Eric Lam. Yes, the same Eric Lam who was sued by Microsoft for nearly a million for ADVERTISEMENT FRAUD just a few weeks ago: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/16/business/media/16adco.html

Everything said in this blog post can be verified by e-mailing me. The truth behind Eric Lam, WoWMine and Evony needs to be exposed for once and for all! (this truth is instantly deleted if mentioned on Evony’s official forums).

I have been collecting lots of information about Evony and what they are up to here: http://www.bruceongames.com/2009/07/10/dont-play-evony/
They are spamming, scamming and copying their way round the web. Beware.

  • http://www.epicslant.com Ferrel

I was starting to wonder! I got about 30 or so of these over on Epic Slant. The spam filter snagged them but part of it had me curious. Either way, I don’t really want to deal with a company that spams blogs with fake messages. I prefer to be spammed with praise and ego stroking!

Here’s our take on their spam abuse and their new drastic action against their members (after we complained that day) : http://www.mmogrindhouse.com/game-news/bizarre/do-you-have-what-it-takes-to-be-the-next-spam-queen/

    Music:

    Evony,
    Oh I hate thee
We’re together in this big net you see
Side by side on my browser, oh lord, filter pleeease!
