Old but very good one.
Just don’t make the same mistake like me and watch the original video to the music.

I saw this before and I loved it, great for WoW machinima. I slightly wonder all the stuff they did outside of the WoW engine itself to achieve alot of the unique stuff.

Since I really only played WoW post TBC, is this supposed to be blood elf assassin trying to kill Onyxia in her human disguise?

I look forward to the day when MMORPGs can actually have confrontations like that. It may never happen, of course, on the grounds that there’s such a mob mentality about the general playerbase.

@Del: that’s what it looks like, yes.

Is it really machinima if they’re just horking the meshes and textures out of the WoW client and composing the whole thing in 3dsmax or whatever? I thought one of the key elements of machinima was that you had to do it in realtime in the provided client. Otherwise you’re just making a 3d movie with someone else’s resources.

I have to echo sidereal on that one. Some of that could have certainly been done in WoW… but, not much after the first few minutes.

I thought I saw this a month ago here. Guess not!
Tales of the Past 1-3 (3 being the best quality) is some good WoW machinima. It was also done with real people on real servers (not to mention dialogue and non ghey music).
If you liked this I recommend watching Tales of the Past 3.

I spent the whole time watching it wishing one of the city guards would man up and offer a decent fight. But after years of getting stunlocked by rogues, I admit some bias. Watching a rogue get worked is about as good as it gets.

Now I have to say that I’ve never liked Amuro Namie, but I felt that the rhythm on that song felt… out of sync with the video. I thought it was distracting. Otherwise, it was a good video (though that was some sloppy body-hiding).

Iain and Brynn say ‘My character can’t jump that high in game’

The music doesn’t bother me. I have a secret weakness for J-Pop.
#13 by Jeremy Preacher on February 10th, 2009
OK that was freakin awesome. AWESOME. And I don’t even like belfs.

I think Katrina Prestor owned the protagonist pretty effectively. And she’s a priest!

Forgive my ignorance, but who makes these things? Doesn’t look like something a twelve-year-old can cough up during home-room. Look pretty damn professional.
#16 by Viz on February 11th, 2009
I like J-Pop too man, I just don’t like Amuro.

You’re behind the times, Lum.
After watching that video for like the millionth time, I begged my husband to roll a human rogue, just because that guy is so sexy. To no avail, he rolled a squidgoat instead. Oh well.

If I recall correctly the guy who made this said the song was the center piece in which he made the movie around.
#19 by EpicSquirt on February 11th, 2009
The song is nice and the arrangement of the movie around it is perfect.

And a dragon.
#21 by Drey on February 11th, 2009
@Merk: The author of that piece worked for a game studio but was laid off a few months before he released it. There’s some info about him at http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/12/29/percula-reveals-future-of-blind/

I like how authentic it all is.
Yes, yes, I know, latency internet blah blah blah. I’m still bitter.

I look forward to and fear the days when average schmoes like me can hack awesome shit like this out with ease.
#24 by Gonzo on February 11th, 2009
It’s awesome, but I have to agree that it’s not Machinima (though many people are referring to it that way). Machinima, by definition, is using a game’s real-time 3D engine and specifically NOT 3D animation software.
I don’t want to take away from the guy’s obvious talent. The video is amazing. But calling it Machinima is like calling a professionally model jet the best paper airplane you’ve ever seen. =)
#25 by Trife on February 11th, 2009
@Gonzo
I do have to agree with you. (Never really delved into machinima much myself to think of it classified as such) It does extent outside of the game itself, and by far. It’s still a good video, but not (at least fully) with the WoW client.
#26 by Kemor on February 12th, 2009
@xzzy
Aha! Same here to be honest…Always about some ninja rogues jumping everywhere like monkeys.
Good video though but I agree, just not real machinima.
#27 by Athryn on February 12th, 2009
A good half of Wow’s machinima wouldn’t qualify for you purists then, as many of the “good” videos are done using the model viewer instead of the in game client. ^_^

The music is REALLY distracting to me, it just doesn’t fit at all. In my opinion.
