DPS Killed The RPG Star

by Scott Jennings on September 19, 2008

Interesting read on the hype machine behind “the Rockstars of WAR“.

But more importantly to Mythic, when people were talking about the verbal fast jabbing Carrie Gouskos, or the laid-back Josh Drescher and comparing them to the dynamic zealotry of Paul Barnett or the strong leader vibe of Jeff Hickman, they were promoting the product that all of these people were working day and night to produce. They were really talking about WAR.

I really liked that article.

It’s not often that we get to see the people behind the curtain. While I’m certain it’s rare that there are people like Paul (for better or worse, better if you ask me) , Jeff, or Josh in ANY kind of development group, it makes me appreciate the human element that people all too often forget when they complain about nerfs or bugs.

And, I definitely believe the “hype machine” worked, but not in a negative way like some other developers could be outed for. The team kept interest in the game over a long period of time where it may have waned – They served their purpose.

Great article, great game, great people.

I wonder if Paul is annoying to work with as he annoying to get game info from?
