I was thinking he’d do a great job in a duet with Shatner, but the Burroughs/REM stuff (or any of the Burroughs music stuff) would also be for the win.
It’s like he has some art college students in control of his shit. The rock in the river dealy, all the fag0rs being like: “I don’t understand this, hurrrr”. Meh.
Joyce: Libertarianism is just a set of ideologies united by expressing personal freedoms and rights (e.g., freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom to bear arms, freedom of and from religion, freedom of press, freedom of ownership, if Wikipedia is to be believed). And Gavel ranks closer to the libertarian end of the scale of political views, as monitored by the Political Compass: http://www.politicalcompass.org/usprimaries2008
That video was insane. Being anti-war isn’t insane; just unrealistic because war is inevitable, human nature, and necessary to continue our decadent way of life.
I don’t see such a clear line. It’s definately not for the main stream. And, well, it doesn’t really want to make me vote for him.
But, I found it …compelling.
Other than Hillaries overexposed 3 am ad, I don’t think I could tell anything about any other candidates ad. This one I will remember. In the dog and pony show, this is a platypus.
You might agree with his politics and the ad is unique for a political ad. But thats all you can say for it.
-Its not original
-It niether presents nor explains any actual points
-it looks cheap and the guy “singing” looks crazy because hes so bad at it.
Saying its good because its better than Hilleries 3am ad is meaningless. She made an ad that everyone should roll their eyes at for content and was not engaging at a viseral level.
This add only succeeds beyond Hilleries in that it is goofy.
“His issues page provides plenty of reasons [he's a libertarian], but surely the most compelling reason to reject Mike Gravel as a “libertarian” candidate is because he favors universal government pre-school and the even more ominous-sounding “parent education,” whatever that may entail.
Gravel is great on foreign policy, but a war on American parents and children is at least as bad as a war on Iraqis. “
Politically, because we’re actually debating its merits on this thread. I doubt it will make anyone vote for him, but you probably weren’t going to vote for Gravel anyway, and it’s at least earning him exposure.
Artistically, because the montage is and good and the cover is… actually sort of catchy.

GRAVEL/PAUL ‘08
Catch the FEVER!!!
Oddly, this reminds me more than anything of the William Burroughs/R.E.M. track from the old “Songs in the Key of X” album from the mid-90s.

Wow. I’m not sure if he’s brillant. Or insane. Just , wow.

that was awsome. If I was more emo, I’d vote for him.

The advantage Libertarians have over candidates of other political persuasions is that they’re more amusing when they go insane.
April 2nd, 2008 - 21:26
Mike Gravel is not a libertarian, at all. He’s a Democrat.
It makes me feel better, in a way, that candidates of other political parties can be publicly insane as well.
Now if only the Libertarians could get some more publicly SANE candidates.

I think he should do “My Pet Goat” for his next video…

I don’t know which is worse, 1) this video or 2) the fact that it’s getting a load of positive reviews on youtube.

You voted in one drunk court jester twice….what’s so bad about this guy.

That political compass thing is more than a little disconcerting. I thought national politics was about moving to the CENTER.

To quote Jon Stewart-
Every time I watch one of this guy’s videos, I think I’m going to die in exactly seven days.
