April Fool’s Day isn’t that fun when the Internet runs it into the ground year after year, y’know?

Ugh, don’t get me started. I try to avoid even going outside on April 1st if I can avoid it.

I think the best April fool’s day trick was when KLBJ did their fake concert. I admit it, a friend and I drove to Austin to find it. Drinking the night before and not knowing what the date was, was all that was needed. We caught on when they had the doors playing, Jim is dead, then Hendrix after words. Then it just turned into a night of crawling up and down 6th street.

I’ve come to also dislike it because folks try to get all creative to “Get Ya!” one day a year like it’s some day it’s mandatory to try to be a prick. Or well better yet, to show how clever they are. Wanna be clever? Do it any other day of the year, and I’ll believe it.

But I swear its like people devolve into moron’s. Or channeling a day where John McCain says something else incredibly moronic. (Which pretty much turns out to be any given day of the week anymore.. )

Well crafted clever pranks are always appreciated… but the glut of half-assed jokes that roll out on April 1st just proves that the art of the con is lost to most.

At work they announced “Bring your Pet to work day” and I thought it was real for a second. dammit!

Yeah, today is the day when people who are not funny at all get to roll out all their yucks. Though I do kind of like the Google “Virgle” thing about a Mars colony, because it is a bit like read a mini sci fi story.

Granted, the pranks are pretty obvious, but I did appreciate the Blizzard effort. The Molten Core for consoles video is a riot. Has sound!

Classic Lum laugh line: “As always, April 1 was an exciting day for news from the gaming industry.”

Hahaha.. My Doctors office just called back to tell me the herpes test was postive.

    Those crazy pranksters.

    Any ladies busy tonight?

I’ve come to the conclusion that I feel about April Fool’s Day the way Buffyverse vampires feel about Halloween.

April 1st, the day I clean out my bookmarks to websites that think ten pages of retardedly fake news is funny.

The best april fools are the suttle no-jokes. For example, when you sent me that “fuck you, you’re not invited to my alpha” email. At first I was like that’s a mean thing to do. Then I figured out your riddle. Although I wasn’t completely trusting it would work. I kept waiting for the SUPRISE APRIL FOOLS the whole time. In fact, I’m still not convinced that what I’m looking at is the real deal. Guess I’ll know after today.

The “comedy” sites are generally still decent today. If for no other reason than people who are actually funny take the time to make fun of people who aren’t funny trying to be funny who then end up being ironically funny without even knowing.

Blizzard’s molten core video is absolutely worth watching.

Well, looks like Blizzard’s paying for an April 1st patch. And their web forums ‘prank’ is making it difficult to read responses from their support staff, who have had to remove all punctuation from their posts.

    Oops.

I hate trying to cover news today. Really, really hate it. Linden Lab’s CEO testifies before congress. No kidding. But it looks like a f’ing joke with the dateline. I visit sites that I usually trust and find useless crap.

The Schlock Mercenary one is actually funny.

Alex Trebek had a mustache penciled in for one portion of today’s Jeopardy. I smiled.

As is IGN’s Legend of Zelda: The Movie trailer.

I just told my users yesterday today will be the last day of zolofighter because Blizzard sent me an letter. Some actually bought, even brought evidence.

April Fools has to be deadpan humor to work. That’s what most people miss. It has to look real and yet still be fake enough for people to get the joke (ie The Onion). As another example, I was quite amused by GMail Paper.

The absolutely greatest thing about the Molten Core video is how eerily similar it is to the whole Warhammer: Age of Reckoning ad campaign. All the marketing parts of the movie are top notch, but when it comes to substance all we are getting is half ass and rehash.

  27. April 2nd, 2008 at 15:52 | #27

Of course, grousing about April Fools Day is a tradition in and of itself.
