Sims Online Resurrects At Healer, Naked Save For Robe And Newbie Dagger, Runs After Second Life Being Stabby
Sims Online reappears as EA Land.
In EA-Land players can play for free for as long as they want, in TSO Players were limited to a one-time 14-day trial period. That trial period, however, enabled all game features, while in EA-Land free players do not have access to all features.
In EA-Land users can upload custom content, including bitmaps, and at this stage chairs and scultptures. Users can also ‘skin’ objects by applying the uploaded bitmap to change the appearances of objects.
Another point of interest is almost casually dropped in the free-to-play FAQ:
Because we intend to let user sell their Simoleans for real money, we cannot have the game give money to free players.
Plus, this game has quite possibly the coolest name ever. LETSPLAY IN EA LAND!

I don’t know about this. If I set up shop in EA LAND they would end up putting in a new Home Owners association, replacing all the association management within a year and selling off or bulldozing the entire subdivision shortly there-after.
I think I’ll keep my home clear of EA LAND for now.

“Because we intend to let user sell their Simoleans for real money, we cannot have the game give money to free players.”
I just have to wonder how thoroughly they thought this out.

Is this in Asia they’re doing this? Because that’s the only place I know of where microtransactions are popular enough to support this.

Needs less Comic Sans.

I decided I’d give it a chance… but the installer tells me it won’t proceed unless I change my desktop to 15 or 16 bit color. Can it really not run if the desktop is in 32 bit color?
They might want to fix that.

I know why I was thinking about The Sims Online yesterday. How did you end up in the same spot on the same day? Is there subliminal advertising out there?

Background
The cities for EA-Land and TSO are divided into two data centers: one located on the U.S. east coast and the other on the U.S. west coast. The cities are currently divided as follows:
East Coast: AV, BF, CC, DG, EJ, FF, BV (and the original TC)
West Coast: IH, JP, DC, MF, EA-Land, and TC3.
Without going into the “why’s” and the “what for’s,” by April 1, 2008 we need to look like this:
East Coast: EA-Land, Test Center3
West Coast: none.
Oodles of ancient hardware available at bargain prices.

Also from the Faq: “Some players might also give you money to help you start.”
And a new class of in-game beggars is born….

EA-Land, HKO, and games like it will herald a new age in online gaming, that will finally end the stagnant stranglehold WoW has on the genre. Who is with me!

“Who is with me!”
I’ll go with you if you twink me with some simoleons

I wonder if EA ever imagined the bitterness of what they did to Kesmai and AirWarrior would last this long?
There are thousands who feel as I do.

Todd:
Perhaps they could rebrand it to Super EA-land?
