True story about working with Robert Garriott; he took an interest in our project and was playing a very (very) early prototype last year. He really liked it and kept saying “This is great fun!” despite there being no actual gameplay implemented yet. My emailed response:
Fun has not yet been implemented. If you find yourself having fun, please report it as a bug. Thanks!
I hope he was amused!

You can always release fun in the first expansion pack — I suggest giving the game a year or so before you start mucking about with fun. It’s nothing to be trifled with … if you’re not careful the game might wind up actually being fun.

We just got a hint, Blackblade:
It’s not fun. But it will be after the patch.

He came up on a Discovery Channel MMO documentary last night and the talking head responsible referred to him in-character (as old and busted Lord British, rather than the new hotness of GENERAL British) the entire time. I giggled.

That’s his brother Richard, Josh. I don’t know if Robert also has an amusing sobriquet.

Robin – Well, that little misread on my part makes the whole thing more amusing in some way. Maybe.
OH GOD. Why didn’t I ever learn to REEEEAD?!!!

Lum, will your MMOG have PvP? I hope not, you really don’t know much about that stuff. I heard Putin is in the alpha. F’in design spy.

Lum plays on the fine line where he can mock his masters while not irritating them.
It worked with Jacobs, so why can’t it work with Garriott?

Far too frugal was Sir Robert
his employees lynched him to ease their poverty
