Some Grudges Never Die

October 22nd, 2007

Seems someone still is sore about the last time he appeared in a beta.

From: General British
To: Rainz

Subject: Rematch

You may have killed me at the UO End of Beta event, however this was not a proper duel. You took me out when I wasn’t expecting it… I handed that to you. Now that I’m ready, I would like to see you try to bring me down again, Rainz. Come and get me.

**End of Line*

So if anyone knows where Rainz is after all these years, a certain sputnik-toting game designer/astronaut is calling you out. (Drop me an email if you know where Mr. Rainz has gone off to.)

    hha! That cracks me up!

You know, I think RG is awesome and all, but I always thought he was a little odd.. what with his moon buggies and mansions with rooms that rotate during the night.

One thing is for sure though, the man knows how to throw a party.

He suggested it before last month in a different interview. Rainz hasn’t been heard from in years, at least not obviously.

I guess RG has a lot of faith in the coders’ ability to get an INVULN flag right.

I’d pay money to see that! The death of LCB in Ultima Online was an event that rang throughout the entire gaming community. As an Ultima fan, I know everyone killed or tried to kill British at least once. To do in front of hundreds of players was a huge blow.
Obviously RG still remembers the sting from the event quite fondly.

How the hell would you even verify the real Rainz after all this time?

I always though to Richard Garriot as the equivalent of “the Chairman” in Iron Chef for the gaming world, this current call out only reinforces my views.

The secret Ingredient is…. PLASMA RIFLE!!!!

I still don’t understand why they made a death animation and sprites for Lord British falling down and dying if he wasn’t supposed to die. That’s what always threw me.

    How pathetic.

    That is most excellent.
    I wish I could have a person call-out by Lord British. :’[

Smack Down! But wouldn’t require a Pre-Ren server to accommodate this rematch? Or at least a Pre-Pub 16 one?

J: Obviously, it was an inside job.

Rainz’s actions were actually a vendetta killing for Lord British dumping a ton of orcs on us during the end of Pre-Alpha event. (At least that’s what I like to think)

Same senario… LB on top of a building, preaching to the masses, Thank you for participating, blah blah blah and *BAM* tons of orcs spawn, lag ensues, everyone dies, servers crash, end of Pre-Alpha.

I remember UO too! Was very excited about it earlier, and got into beta testing. Well, was not able to find monsters at first, then can’t kill monsters, can’t even find a free target dummy to practice on. So I give up, and later heard about how LB died and thought that was funny.

Later on my friend joined UO and played, keep hear stories about lag lag more lags so I just played Diablo instead.

Meh, the easiest way to kill Lord British was with the ship in the moat. U3 I think. Sail to the front, go in and kill Chuckles, wait for him to come out a shoot a cannon in his face.

If I were Rainz, I would definitely parley this into some perks. Major exclusive betas. For life.

Lum: I tried to track down Rainz earlier this year–I’ll email you the details.

    The correct phrase is:

“Droppin’ PLATES on yo ass, byotch!”

R(Hi Mr. The Mad, long time listener, first time poster! <3 )

I remember this incident quite vividly.

An In-Game event is in progress – British and Blackthorn are both there – it’s a fuckin’ lagfest – everyone’s trying their best to “make an impact on their game world” by spamming their best macro as this unfolds.

    Blackthorn is invul.
British isn’t invul but thinks he is. He either wasn’t wearing the item, or didn’t bother to cast the spell, or didn’t type something in console.

pack of lamers nukes blackthorn – invul
they nuke each other – death, lagfest
Rainz casts Fire Wall on British
British stands there (lagfest)….dies….everyone in the area goes crazy, who knows who looted (my bet: pack of lamers) I lost my connection to the shard at this point.

I don’t have any additional comments to share at this time.
