The Remains Of The Day

Vanguard team moved to the SOE mothership, thus bringing to a final close the Sigil story.

And yes, I’m still alive – work is eating my time lately. Amazingly, given a choice between designing an MMO and writing for my blog, I sometimes choose the former!

That’s some cold language in your link there Lum.

I hope this finally puts to rest any thoughts of ‘The Vision™’ ever having any merit. Brad McQuaid’s POS design philosophy.

People were playing Everquest IN SPITE of ‘The Vision™’ not because of it. The root of all SOE evil started with the ‘The Vision™’.

You know, I don’t think anyone ever spelled out ‘The Vision’ to me, though I keep hearing about it.

The Vision was a very simple concept. The Vision is this, you’ll be so damn miserable trying to play the game by yourself that you’ll turn to other players to alleviate the misery.

    That’s it.

The Vision is the father of multi-boxing. People didn’t turn to other people they just played two or more accounts at one time. The design philosophy is so bad that even on raids of 20+ characters many characters would be bots because some classes were required and yet were amazingly boring to play.

I hope it’s better than the former ones from your company :P

Vanguard is all but dead and burried, I hope they can rescue it I really do, because it had some really good ideas that they had to cut long before release. But alas I think it’s already dead an burried.

SOE, king of the niche hardcore games, but trying to make money off the casual teen crowd.

I hope you got some cake, if you’re still alive.

Also: Please make a credits in your game a musical number.

“As a result, not every Carlsbad employee has been invited to stay with the development team.”

Wow. I think my nipples just froze off.

When you first posted this I was just thinking that being a Community Manager has got to be worse even than working in HR. That short paragraph has obviously been vetted 20 times and I could almost HEAR the grating of teeth that accompanied the cut&paste from the “official” email.

Everyone has their motherships and sometimes you need to have a good old-fashioned game of X-Com!
