To Serve, Protect, and Respond To IMs
As seen on mmodig, the Vancouver PD apparently has nothing to do.
The Vancouver police officers involved in the recruitment on Second Life have their own avatars, or Second Life persona, dressed in a specially designed VPD uniform, badge, belt and radio. They’re also trained in the other-world customs and commands of the virtual society.
These new cyb0rcops are for recruiting hep Web 2.0 peeps into the Vancouver Very Special Forces. Now. But just wait! There’s more!
“It’s going to be interesting when we start to receive crime reports — you know, harassment cases or things like that — in the virtual world,” he says. “How are we going to deal with them?”
Clearly, step 1 in dealing with harassment complaints online: sexy black uniforms.

Maybe Linden can subcontract out for them to, you know, do police work, since their own efforts pretty much don’t exist.

Just wait until they try to find out exactly WHOSE giant flying penises attacked the Canadian Prime Minister’s land parcel…

Linden won’t ever police its own grid in any publicized way — they rely too heavily on the DMCA’s safe harbor/service provider provisions to do that. It would mean that they’re actually responsible for the content stored on their servers.

Your continued reporting of these stories just hastens us all to the point where there will simply be NO snarky comment possible.
This story is the universe making a snarky comment at humanities expense. I am

They’re probably just 14 year old girls pretending to be cops.

Being a Vancouverite, where the transit cops hassle working stiffs for their fares while junkies shoot up and pass out on people the next SkyTrain car over, I am not in the least suprised to hear the VPD considers playing MMOGs full of furries yiffing and penii flying to be more important then….y’know….policing.

I think you made some typos there, Mr. Freeman, but not to worry, I made it all better.

This just reinforces my first impression that Vancouver is like San Francisco but with more Asian residents.
