Kratos Is Displeased With You Puny Reviewers

David Jaffe dislikes reviews, takes ball, goes home.

Penny Arcade, as always, with the trenchant prescient commentary!

Now that’s why we don’t need public relations people. News is 250% more fun.

    I like the guy. ;^)

Jaffe might be a talented game designer, but on his blog, he always comes off as some kind of infantile man-child — trying desperately hard to be “X-TREME” and edgy.

If one didn’t know any better, you’d swear he was 15 years old.

    Several points:

    1) If you’re going to “go dark” then just do it and don’t turn it into a big goddamned drama.

    2) If you don’t like a review, either blow it off or (if you must) de-construct it rationally, and even throw some grace and humor in. Don’t throw a tantrum, and don’t expect sympathy when you bitch about an 8 out of 10 rating.

    3) If you don’t want people to tell you how full of shit you are, don’t blog.

See this is why I ignore Amber. He never threw a tantrum. Did you read the entire post in question? It was a rant about how he thinks they used the wrong metric to gauge his product. I have seen tantrums and this was not a tantrum. Also mostly he was bitching about Gamespot’s 6/10 rating, which you would have known had you read his post, which I guess answers my earlier question. The only real comparison he had for the 8.5 and 8 were that they seemed low compared to 1up’s assertion that it was the greatest thing on PSN, but ultimately he said he could live with the 8 and 8.5.

“Fuck you, guys. Go fuck yourselves. … I hope Kotaku fucking puts your ass out of business, wanna be fucktards.” is a tantrum by just about any definition.

And the postscript makes it pretty clear he wasn’t talking about the Gamespot review.

He was in the original rant which is what I thought we were referencing. He didn’t say he hated Gamespot, just that he thought the review was unfair. Go back and scroll down and read the original post and you’ll understand.

That message was for a site that took his post out of context as far as I can tell. The postscript was just him saying he didn’t hate Gamespot or whatever people were saying he said.

Also in all honestly that’s not like any tantrum I’ve ever beheld. There’s way to much logic and purpose. It’s some guy blowing off steam about some people who have done him wrong. I think it’s allowed.

I would kill for an edit button. To explain further on the topic of the tantrum: Tantrums are to get something. Sympathy, that toy your mom just took away, an extra hour added to your curfew, something, anything. Here he clearly had nothing to get so it couldn’t have been a tantrum. He was just blowing off steam about some people who did him wrong as previously stated.

Also I apparently wrote “to” instead of “too” because I typed too fast and didn’t bother to check.

You’re trying to redefine the word “tantrum” to weasel out of the point, and the new definition you’re using doesn’t appear in any dictionary I can find. Tantrums don’t have to have anything to do with getting something – a tantrum is a fit of bad temper or an excessively emotional outburst.

    Not that it matters.

Somebody misquoted him, (or he thought someone did) and instead of ignoring it or trying to correct it he turned it into a huge freakin’ drama. While I find public drama entertaining, it was still a stupid response.

Alright. I don’t say everyone has to agree with me. Or anyone for that matter.

Although to my original point: he was quite civil in his original post which is where he did his complaining about scores which, apparently, Amber didn’t bother to read.

Well since Scott linked the entire blog and not just the “original” post, I read all 3 posts, including the (and yes it was a) tantrum, and then…pay attention here Cake because it gets a little bit complicated…formed a consolidated opinion.

I hereby modify point 3 to read: If you don’t want people to tell you how full of shit you are, don’t blog or leave comments on blogs.

And would it kill him (Jaffe) to be a little more… oh, I don’t know… professional?

Ah I see where I misread that now. My apologies.

Also I don’t mind being made to look like an idiot. If I did I would engage my brain more often as opposed to my beer.

The best revenge is living well. Well, it used to be. Now the best revenge is posting on your blog.
