CGM Shuttered

March 13th, 2007

Computer Games magazine and its new sibling Massive (which I don’t think survived long enough to be renamed) shut down today. Not because “PC gaming is dying” or “print media is dying”, but because theglobe.com is dying, specifically thanks to a summary judgement entered against it by Myspace.com that caused theglobe to go thefwoomf.

Gamasutra’s story is here. Troy Goodfellow, regular writer for CGM, has more on his blog.

Massive was renamed MMO Games in an effort at branding. Computer Games, MMO Games. Cute, huh?

Damn, I wish I would have known about that magazine earlier… I would have definitely subscribed.

So, their parent company got called for massively spamming MySpace users, and got hauled to court for it and got pwned?

    Good.

While it saddens me that these magazines are casualties in this matter, I just can’t shed a tear for a bankrupt spammer. One down, far too many more to go.

    *Cries*

CGM was hands-down my favorite of the PC Gaming magazines, I loved all the columns and the ‘for adults’ feel ;/ I shall really miss it.

    RIP Computer Games.
Thanks for defying the norm of game reporting.
    You will be missed.
