I Really Need To Make A Second Life Icon

by Scott Jennings on December 26, 2006

It may be the holidays but the metaverse drama never sleeps… from the ongoing war between Prokofy Neva and Something Awful (my bets are on Neva, the USSR was far more grieftastic than any goonfleet) to the article that may well have some ramifications into the new year: Clay Shirky analyzes the funny numbers Linden has been spoonfeeding the uncritical media, based in large part on his earlier Terra Nova pieces. Second Life brings back MMO investigative journalism – whoulda think it!

O please make it a “cut-off bloody furry head”.

I bet more people read this article today.

Says you can make $60k a year there among the almost 2-million users!

The guy thinks everyone at SA does illegal things to Second Life?
Even the W-Hat guys are generally bound by “Only mock and don’t do anything illegal otherwise you are a dumbass.” as their motto.

Something Awful picks on the silly because the silly is funny and as furries have proven, the silly that some people take ENTIRELY too seriously makes for the best comedy.

And let’s face it, Second Lifers take that stupid graphical chat room ENTIRELY too seriously. The combination of real money for virtual products plus user made content plus Internet perverts makes for a giant target just dying to be mocked.

You’re just jealous of Linden’s brilliant, brilliant marketing and media relations skillz.

Though this might be the first chink in their armor. Media types don’t usually mind being used if it nets them cool-sounding copy and keeps editors off their backs, but they like being very obviously lied to a lot less.

Now it’s just a question of how soon this article gets referenced, and that won’t be easy when it’s just so damned sexy to keep reporting on the war between the PS3 and the Wii. Help a brotha out.
