“I’ve braved the Fargodeep Mine, defeated the Bloodfish of Jerrod’s Landing…. uuuuurgh. (dirtnap)”
OK, so the Southpark World of Warcraft advertisementparody is actually a pretty decent satire of MMORPGs. If you haven’t seen it, it’s probably going to be uploaded to Google Video and YouTube at 5 minute intervals for the rest of the week.
“Are you French, Clyde? Mmmm?”
Edit: apparently, the machinima liberally used throughout the episode was done by these guys.\’c2\~

I thought it was ok, but it seriously reminded me why I don’t watch South Park anymore…

I found it to be pretty funny, but as Scott suggested, it did come off as something of an ad for WoW. (I really expected the game to get ripped on more than it did.)
I hear that Blizzard handled all of the in-game footage themselves, so maybe there WAS some kind of marketing deal between them and Comedy Central/South Park Studios. *shrugs*

It was pretty much what I expected, although the machinima was a pleasant surprise. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more insider humor (mostly just Cartman stating things on TeamSpeak that most of us WoW players understood perfectly), but I shouldn’t have expected that in the first place. After all, most of South Park’s viewers probably don’t play World of Warcraft.

Judging by the discussions over at South Park Studios, you’re right on: http://www.southparkstudios.com/fans/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=23387&vote=viewresult&sid=sid=877b06a75e85890374f8809ec6630f1e

The credits were squeezed left and sped by too fast, but there was clearly a 20-some person list in there titled “Blizzard …” (something I couldn’t read)
It’s pretty clear that one of the dynamic duo and/or friends thereof are playas, there’s too much accuracy for someone just reading the box or manual to pick up on. That and the teamspeak stuff was hilarious.
It was funny. I laughed. No big whoop.

I’m not really sure how much of an ad for the game it was. I mean the sword of a thousand truths made playing the game instantly pointless.
Maybe you have to be jaded to get it but I thought they poked at the treadmill nature of MMOGs pretty well. Having said that compared to what they did to Lucas or the Mormons this doesn’t come close.

I love this post from “Zygon”: “Only nerds play WoW because they have no life. so no, i do not play WoW”
Apparantly having a “life” means posting on the South Park forums. Every time someone meets their own special kettle, an angel gets its wings.

I also thought it came off as sort of an ad, but who knows. I still found Cartman’s ordering to be painfully familiar to my raiding days. Good way to start off the 10th season in my opinion.

Actually, the 10th season started back in March. South Park’s seasons are split into two 7-episode chunks. The latest episode started off the second half.

Maybe it was advertising WoW, maybe not. I expected them to rip on WoW more than they did. However, after watching the deadly accuracy of the teamspeak and munchies and posture and catassery…I really have no desire to play again.

I’ve never played WoW, only Asheron’s call really, and I thought that raid chat was made up.
PEOPLE ACTUALLY TALK LIKE THAT?!
I mean, we have teamspeak in AC too, but it’s mostly just “attack some shit man, heal me omfg, omg died.”
Having a raidmaster who actually has things to say is what you get for playing an MMORPG that uses actual “tactics”. Boo!
