As of this afternoon, I’m no longer an employee of Mythic Entertainment.
The parting was on good terms on both our sides… and driven more than anything else by my family and I’s simply wanting to return to the Southwest.
The fact that I’m moving on to a really fantastic opportunity (which I’m not sure I can talk about yet) also doesn’t hurt.
At any rate, as you can well imagine, things are REALLY HECTIC for me right now. More later.

Be any more secretive and they’ll do an end-run around FISA to wiretap you.
#2 by Amber Night on February 17th, 2006
No snappy comments from me today. I’m sorry for Mythic, but happy for you Lum! I’m sure you’ll keep us all up to date on your new life and going ons. Best of luck to you!

Grats!

Quite the news Lum. All the best!
#5 by Staarkhand on February 17th, 2006
Let us know what you’re doing as soon as you can. For now, how about some juicy hints. Can we safely assume it’s in the gaming industry, possibly of the MMO flavor? Will you no longer prevaricate about how you’re not really a game designer, just a jumped up database programmer?
Anyhow, best of luck, and being ultimately selfish I hope you’re going to work on a new MMO so you can contribute directly to my life. You do have something to offer.
#6 by Balasarius on February 17th, 2006
Congrats!
Please tell us that you’re working for Blizzard on the Starcraft MMO.
I want to be a Protoss Templar.

Very cool. Southwest where?
#8 by scottj on February 17th, 2006
Yes, it is in the MMO industry, and no, I can no longer use the “I’m not really a designer” copout.
Further I cannot say until I am debriefed by Echo Base.
#9 by Sanya on February 17th, 2006
Fucking fucker.
(Inside joke, people, nothing to see here, move along.)
#10 by Caya on February 17th, 2006
Wow, congratulations
#11 by Mandella on February 17th, 2006
I know, you’re going to be working for Cornered Rat, aren’t you?
Heh, I kid, but seriously whatever has Lum the Mad involved as an actual dev will certainly be on my “got to try it out” list.
#12 by samsam on February 17th, 2006
Congrats, Lum! Mythic won’t be the same without ya, I’m sure – I hope I don’t regret reactivation of my DAoC accounts….
#13 by Vowels on February 17th, 2006
That’s great news!
I hope no one shoots me for hoping the original post meant the LtM site would achieve resurrection, hehe. I’d far rather have a brand new MMOG though.

*sniffles* NOOOOOOOOOOO
*hugs Lum* I will miss you fixing stuff–and wish you all the best
#15 by Aufero on February 17th, 2006
“REALLY HECTIC” must be an understatement. Good luck with the move, and congratulations on not being able to deny being a designer anymore.
#16 by Kathygnome on February 17th, 2006
Hey, good luck! Southwest? Northeast? South America? Afghanistan? It’s all better than living in the District burbs.

Must not give in…

I think Scott would rather scoop his eyeballs out with a rusty spork pulled out of a toilet Mr. Just_a_guess.
#21 by Zubon on February 17th, 2006
Positive things for you. Don’t forget to spread the word if they need more.
#22 by Therrik on February 17th, 2006
Best of luck Scott. Good to see you won’t be able to use the “not a designer” cop out anymore. Still sad to see you leave Mythic.
#23 by Merusk on February 17th, 2006
Big grats, Scott. Best of luck in the Southwest and wherever you’re running off to.
I take it they offered you *2* bagels, hm?

A rant site will someday bitch about Lum’s game.
And then the circle will be complete. The world will unravel, the next age will begin, and the dragon will be reborn.
Good luck!
#28 by Freakazoid on February 18th, 2006
Wow. I wouldn’t have expected that.
Good luck in whatever your new job is. Maybe you’ll actually get to design something! And it might be fun!

And then large volumes of text will be written which don’t actually say anything. No wait….we already have someone doing that….. (we

WOW!
Well I was going to reup this week for camelot, but now… DOOOOOOOOMED!
Now what will happen to camelot? I picture an apocolyptic meltdown, culminating in Sanya burning down mythic hq, and the lamb laying down with the lion, and silence covering the sky.
And later you’ll look back and feel guilty that you alone brought on the downfall of mythic by leaving.
heh.
#33 by Cael on February 18th, 2006
I’ll look forward to the gloating official press-releases.
Have an easy move.

So, you actually expect things to improve around here with Scott leaving?
Best of luck, Scott.

Have to say, MMO and Southwest pretty much spells Austin. Could be wrong though, and, of course, best of luck to you, Lum. Like I told you at AGC, without The Rantings of Lum the Mad, I never would have gotten the nerve up to try doing net-journalism work myself.
Good luck with your new job, and may you work on a game that Does Not Suck.
#37 by Coppersworth on February 18th, 2006
BAh! Tell us the part you can’t talk about right now! The suspense is killing me!
#38 by Erkht on February 18th, 2006
Old man shuffles out front door, film at 11.. Be sure to give the jar a kick on the way out and release that fairy!
Austin is more South than West (twang!).. I’d say Orange County or Insane Diego would be more fun.. Everyone knows AoE *really* stands for Axis of Evil, so don’t go there, please!
Of course, wherever you go, there you’ll be, and be useful I’m sure..
Congrads Lum!
#39 by JLB on February 18th, 2006
Does this mean you will be working on the long awaited sequel to WW2 Online?
#40 by Gar on February 18th, 2006
W00T!
that is all ..

Hmm…. Echo base sounds Stargate.
They are making that in the Phoenix area and that qualifies as south west =)

Oddly enough, when I opened my mailbox today, the subject of one of the emails was:
A New Heavy Weapons System Blasts Its Way Into Star Wars Galaxies!
I thought it might have something to do with this announcement, alas, it did not….
#45 by LanTheWarder on February 18th, 2006
Congrats Lum here’s hoping it’s something in Austin.

**Old man shuffles out front door, film at 11..**
Reminds me “The Straight Story” from David Lynch

Let us know as soon as you can, so we can anticipate playing it!
And your contract damn well better have a clause explicitly permitting the rantings of Lum the Mad, or the company in question is going to have an awful lot of us to deal with.

[...]And your contract damn well better have a clause explicitly permitting the rantings of Lum the Mad, or the company in question is going to have an awful lot of us to deal with.[...]
AGREED!
#49 by Freakazoid on February 19th, 2006
Let’s not be hasty. The denial of rantage was wholly endorsed by Lum from the start. It’s considered unprofessional to pick on games that are your competitors and I think he’s sane enough to accept that again.
Let’s just cherish the next couple weeks, since I hear his job doesn’t start until march, and until then he is without a leash (except maybe the wife).
#50 by Heartless_ on February 19th, 2006
Come on people… it is so obvious.
SW = Arizona… aka middle of nowhere. Lum can relax which makes the family happy. Lum relaxes and can focus on MMORPG For Dummies : The Sequel.
Duh!
…. morons.
