No snappy headline today.

February 17th, 2006

As of this afternoon, I’m no longer an employee of Mythic Entertainment.

The parting was on good terms on both our sides… and driven more than anything else by my family and I’s simply wanting to return to the Southwest.

The fact that I’m moving on to a really fantastic opportunity (which I’m not sure I can talk about yet) also doesn’t hurt. :)

At any rate, as you can well imagine, things are REALLY HECTIC for me right now. More later.

You don’t think he’ll do “MMORPG Moons for Dummies” as an expansion pack?

  2. February 19th, 2006 at 12:41 | #2

I don’t know…. “MMORPG PvP for Dummies” or maybe “MMORPG Ranting for Dummies” could do equally well for him!

Lum! Holy heck in a hand cart! I go away for a week and everything goes topsy turvy.

I wish you luck in your future endeavors.

Southwest… that’s so many places, Austin being the leading favorite, but Tucson, Phoenix, and LA/San Diego as other opportunities. If you land in Arizona, let me know. I still owe ya a beer from Vegas =)

I suspect the weather will be nicer than DC, although whether you actually ever go outside is another question. (But if you want to, you _can_. Anytime. And that’s the important thing!)

Good luck with the change! I hope this does not mean that you’re going to be muzzling yourself.

If I had a guess which I don’t, and insider info which I don’t I’d have to say Stargate gets a new Dev????

Grats Lum, I think… Remember, some of us believe Raph has MMOG design all wrong. Worlds, not rules, no theories, just dynamics and chaos. Just saying.

Good luck, that’s for sure. All the best to you and yours and one tip from the experience barn.

Moving is Hell. Anything you care about move it yourself. Anything you can sell, throw away or give away before the move, please for your, sake do.

I KNEW I should’ve had him autograph my copy of the Dummies book a couple weeks back.

    *sigh*

Good luck out there, Scott. You’ll be missed at Mythic.

  17. February 20th, 2006 at 11:59 | #17

    Good show!

I hope it’s Texas or ‘zona, if it is SoCal whatever raise they gave you won’t be enough!

  18. February 20th, 2006 at 12:00 | #18

Congratulations on your newfound opportunity, Lum. Glad to see you getting the opportunity to do new and exciting things.

Condolances to all the other great folks at Mythic for your loss. :)

Sounds SW:G-ish to me. Is Lum going to the dark side? Or perhaps he will bring balance to the force?

I think a nerf bat would have been a good going-away present. =]

  20. February 20th, 2006 at 14:06 | #20

    A Austin-based MMORPG developer?

OMG Lum works on Shadowbane 2!

Sachant, tell us about it! =D

    No, no… he’s working on UO 2.

  22. February 20th, 2006 at 15:12 | #22

Good luck wherever! Enjoy design; it’s better than… well, just about any other job I can imagine.

  23. February 20th, 2006 at 16:45 | #23

I have a guess totally off the charts but wholly plausable as well.

SOE Austin (the fine folks who brought you NGE SWG) are supposed to be working on a DC comics version of CoH. If correct it would mean Scott and Raph would be working for the same boss…

Congrats on wherever your journey takes you.

  24. February 20th, 2006 at 17:51 | #24

Maybe he’s an employee of EA :/

  25. February 20th, 2006 at 19:03 | #25

I can neither confirm nor deny blah blah blah (that’s for you alex. ;) )

Phoenix/Arizona is hardly in the middle of nowhere. It’s LA part II. Everytime I go back there to visit my familly they’ve got some other new super shopping center built and 2x the cars on the roads. If only they’d learn how to MERGE.

    Would be great, though, Sachant…

The SB2 thing, not learning how to merge ;)

Awww, well, I’ll be sure to randomly bump into you someplace, no matter where you go, since I think of all the times I randomly bumped into you, only one of them was anywhere within a hundred miles of Virginia. :)

Best of luck at your new job! Cheers!

Admit it, Tess. You’re stalking him.

  37. February 22nd, 2006 at 10:47 | #37

Lum – I bet dollars to donuts that if you visited two cities in the next week, and reported from both locations on which cardinal direction your new job could be found in, people would have the building triangulated to the nearest Starbucks.

    Spooky :)

    Now, go make a difference.

    Tabula Rasa?

The alignment of Richard Garriot and Lum the Mad is one sign of the apocalypse.

In my “End of reality” chapter of my MMO based holy book that is.

Oh shizzle and damn…. you might be working with me soon then. I have always loved your writing style and your strange, weird, unusual slant on things. But you have no idea how much all the techies yell at me :P

Good luck and I “think” I hope it is on the same project that I am on.
