LetsYogurting!

Believe it or not, this is actually a promotional video for an MMO.

Yogurting – ENDLESS VACATION PHENOMENON.
(First picture’s a linked screenshot. I think. It may also be some kind of hallucination.)

Why don’t we make games like this in the US? Aside from, well, all the obvious reasons.

(edit: Thanks to the intrepid efforts of Bell of Ygg over at Corpnews, now YOU TOO can go yogurting!)

    Dance Dance Revolution.
    Katamari Damancy.

Art and games across the Pacific have already influenced the comic art people draw over here, and I believe that the first company willing to take a chance with this title like the others will be rewarded with a successful game that impacts pop culture, and perhaps even setting a trend.

The reason we don’t make games like this is clear to me. We don’t get the good drugs anymore. Where is Owsley when we really need him?

I think you could probably get hallucinations like that by eating yogurt from the back of the fridge, which would explain the name.

Is it because US devs don’t actually care about women?

What exactly in that movie was meant to convey that a video game was being promoted? Is this some weird 21st century marketing where the brand and lifestyle are way more important than any actual product?

Anyhow, I’m with Bingo on this one.

Perhaps the brand and lifestyle is the product? Though I suspect it’s just a crazy way to market a typical MMO. I can’t quite tell with korean gamers.

As far as why america doesn’t get games like that, it’s because… well, I can think of a lot of things but I they’re all obvious to me. I think I’ll pick “it’s not as fun as katamary OR ddr”.

I’d say Barbie Dolls aren’t as fun as Katamari or DDR, but little Sally and Susan disagrees with me.

If you’re interested in the game, here’s some information from a language I can actually read. I assume the information available in Korean is rather similar. http://www.4gamer.net/news.php?url=/DataContents/game/1678.html

Short version: Produced by Neowiz in Korea, localized for the Japanese market (incidentally: a lot of the minor Korean MMORPG releases are, by the way — I played flyff and it held my attention for only two weeks because it was punishingly grindy but since it was also on a Korean-style payment system both sides of the transaction ended up happy). The setting is a school where strange events are a regular feature and you, the player, are one of those lovely adventuresome students who is charged with restoring order to our troubled world & etc. Its designed to be easy to play and has an abundance of available items to customize your character with. Cute graphics and the adventure is divided into “episodes”. Heavily targeted at “light users” (I assume thats Japanese for casual?), its supposed to be easy to play compared to other MMORPG offerings.

The game is on the Korean model — basic service is free, you pay for items and services. I’ve got no clue what Korean won buy you nowadays, but you can get 10k microcredits (”shop points”) for 1000 yen ($~8.50, buys you a meal at a sit-down restauraunt aimed at college students). You can rent a new premium outfit ingame (kimono, school uniform, whatever) for 30 days at a time, and that costs 3k shop points. Or you can buy a 20% boost to your attack power for 3 days at the cost of 1.5k shop points. (Interesting test question: what does this pricing imply about their business model and target customer?)

Anyhow, I know you probably can’t read it but you’re not missing too much. Pictures are nice. http://www.yogurting.jp The game is, incidentally, out right now if you want to try it, and free (with the above microcredit caveat). I’d imagine you might have some headaches on an English-only system though.

If it doesn’t have me taking upskirt pictures of panties, then I’m not interested.

Unless it’s hot gay elf hentai! Then I’m all ears! *chortle*

Need a different color palette such as “The Matrix,” “Underground,” or “Oh Brother Where Art Thou.” The one they use hurts my eyes.

Honestly, it’s blind leading the blind when it came to my guide. The instructions I came up with, as far as I could tell, created a temporary guest account. Folks that are honestly interested should head to http://s13.invisionfree.com/yogurting/index.php?act=idx
