Never before has this blog’s title been so apt.
Some New Year’s Resolutions I’n currently considering:
1) When presented with a shiny new blog upgrade? Don’t.
2) When upgrading said shiny new blog? Don’t try to do it over a laggy web connection.
3) When upgrading said shiny new blog over a laggy web connection? Don’t try to be clever and batch up SQL commands when restoring data from a backup.
4) When doing all of the above? Don’t, in a sleepy fit at 4:00 AM, hit the Submit button twice when doing a “DROP TABLE X; ALTER TABLE Y RENAME TO X;”
I guess if I’m going to lose a few month’s work to slippery fingers and net lag, better it not be something someone else is paying for!
(goes off to check and see if Dreamhost does SQL backups…)

See, I would’ve only upgraded to whichever version is “stable” and left it like that for years.
On the plus side, the comment box doesn’t stretch past my screen anymore!
But now the right column keeps disappearing randomly from your main page.

This reminds me of what it was like before I knew about makefiles and make clean. Ya see, when I wanted to rebuild everything, I would have to remove the .o files. Well, those are collectively called *.o, so of course, I would type \\rm *.o Which is fine, except….I tend to type fast and make mistakes and then correct them by retyping. The problem with this is that when you type \\rm *.o, you have to hold down the shift key to type *, then let go of it to type .. So what happens if you don’t let go of the shift key fast enough? That little . becomes a >, and you end up typing \\rm *>o which is generally not what you want.

So that’s what happened to the ginormous comment I typed up last night and couldn’t post.
Damn, that sucks, you had some good stuff there.
As for WordPress … I think you remember my opinion of the individual behind WordPress and his ethics (or lack thereof). Maybe this would be a good time to look around for a better alternative?
